Run a business doing the things you love to do… who does not like that?
But if your current job occupies most of your time, how can you even start achieving that dream? Well, there’s a lot of inspirational stories out there about this but almost no one is teaching how to do this the RIGHT way.
So today, I want to share something I learned about this which I also personally applied. I have to say this because I want to emphasize that what I’m going to share here is NOT just a theory I read somewhere. This is something I did myself so I know it works, if you follow it “religiously.”
The Myth About Risking it All to Achieve Your Dream
Taking the risk is of course a great attitude in starting a business. But why take so much risk if there’s a safe way to do it?
You see, most business magazines and TV shows out there want to talk about people who left their job, sold their house, loaned a BIG amount of money, and literally risked it all, and then built a business, and became really successful.
I mean, how cool is that? It’s so dramatic and inspirational like a Cinderella story and you can even make a movie out of it.
However, while this might be a true story for a very few out there, it’s not something that most successful business owners did. Most of them did it in a safe way and it took them some time to get there. But why is it that TV shows and magazines are not talking about their story? Well, because their story is boring and not so exciting to talk about.
But while the safe way is boring and not dramatic at all, it’s what I highly recommend you to do if you want to escape from your busy stressful life and finally start a business doing the things you love.
Here’s How to Do It…
Before I talk about this, I gotta tell you this is NOT easy at all. You must be willing to sacrifice a lot of things. But if you’re faithful, it’s really worth it in the end.
The safe way I’m talking about is - start working on your business while you are still working in your job. Don’t listen to those people telling you to resign and then follow your dream by starting your own business. A lot of people failed miserably by doing this. Again, there might be a few people who became successful and media wants to dramatize their life a lot, but this is not something that happens to people everyday.
Okay, stay in the job while starting a business.
“But Cham, how can I even start a business if I don’t have time because I’m working everyday?
I hear ya…
I don’t know how many hours you are working everyday. Probably 8 hours, 10 hours, or even 13 hours. But even if you are working 13 hours a day, there are still 11 hours left. What you need to do is allot 1 to 2 hours everyday to start working on your business.
But how?
Well, since you only have limited time, you need stop any less important activity that waste your time. You know, things like watching TV, hanging out with friends, taking too much time on Facebook, etc.
Then, you should learn to sleep just 6 to 7 hours a day. You should sleep early at night because you need to wake up early every morning to work on your business 1 to 2 hours per day.
What I suggest is that, you should sleep at 10PM then wake up at 5AM (setup an alarm). So from 5 to 6 in the morning, you can work on your business. Because you have a very limited time, you should spend those time ONLY for your business.
Then at 6AM, prepare, then go to work then do the same thing the next day.
Do this faithfully everyday until your business produce results. And don’t resign from your job until the money you’re making from your business is now the same with your income from your job.
When your business is now producing income regularly and you’re making the same amount of money with your day job, it’s about time to submit that resignation letter.
How I Did This…
My daughter was born on May of 2014 and since then, I was struggling to earn because I didn’t have time anymore. My wife has to go back to work and I’m left at home to take care of our daughter.
That happened until 2015 and when we got scammed that year, I promised myself to really do something despite not having so much time.
I learned this “safe way” from a marketer and I followed it faithfully. I was sleeping at 10 or 11PM then waking up at every 4AM then work on my digital product until 6AM. I was recording 1 video per day and man, it’s not that easy. There were times I almost gave up because I’m not even sure if the course I’m creating is going to give me any results. But I worked on the training faithfully until it was completed – and that’s how Video Rubix was born.
It took me about 6 months to create the product, and it became the product of the day in JVZoo on May 2016, earning over $25K.
Since then, I still continued to work online but eventually focused on creating courses because it’s really something I like to do.
So Are You Busy?
Probably, you are. But if you always make that as a reason for you not to achieve your goal, I’m sorry to say you’ll remain like that forever. If you’re waiting for a time to become available, time will never make itself available for you. You should MAKE time.
Finally, I want to share something I just learned – Don’t use being busy as an excuse. Rather, use it as an inspiration.
Use it as a fuel and tell yourself that you don’t like to remain in that situation forever.
